Dr Zafar Iqbal joins his deptt at SUST

SYLHET, Apr 2 (UNB): Renowned writer Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, who was injured in a knife attack on March 3, returned to his department at Shahjajal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Monday.

Zafar Iqbal went to the Computer Science and Engineering department around 12:15 pm, said his personal assistant Joynal Abedin.

He attended a meeting on the Master's admission around 1:00 pm, he said. "Sir (Zafar Iqbal) is now completely fit. So, he has no problem in taking classes."

Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad thana, said additional police have been deployed on the SUST campus to ensure security of Dr Zafar Iqbal.

A young man, Foyzur Rahman, swooped on Zafar Iqbal and stabbed him with a knife at the Mukta Mancha during a celebration programme, 'Robofight,' of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department on March 3.

The renowned writer was first taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and then airlifted to the Combined Military Hospital on Dhaka on the same day at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid a visit to Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) following a knife attack.

He returned to the SUST campus on March 14 after his treatment but did not join the office.
