A case has been filed against Zia Rahman, a professor at the Department of Criminology of Dhaka University, for his controversial remarks about 'AssalamuAlaikum' and 'Allah Hafez', reports UNB.

The case was filed with the court of Judge Assam Jaglul Hossain under the Digital Security Act on Sunday morning.

Muhammad MahbubAlam, editor of the monthly Al Bayyinat and the Daily Al Ihsan, filed the case with the Bangladesh Cyber Crimes Tribunal.

According to the case statement, Prof Zia made libelous remarks saying 'AssalamuAlaikum' and 'Allah Hafez' as abhorrent, reprehensible and a sign of extremism. He associated all these practices of Muslims with militancy.

Recently, in a talk show called 'Uposhonghar' (Conclusion) on DBC News television channel, Professor Zia Rahman described 'Assalamu Alaikum' and 'Allah Hafez' in pure Arabic pronunciation as disgusting.

The issue sparked huge criticisms on social media.
