The special Senate session of Dhaka University (DU) has nominated a panel of three Professors for the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor (VC) on Wednesday at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the DU campus.
All the three professors are from the ruling Awami League backed 'Blue Group' of DU teachers.
On the other hand, BNP-Jamaat backed 'White Group' teachers were absent at the Senate session after tagging the Senate as 'Questioned'.
The panel of three professors was nominated for the appointment of VC by the Chancellor in accordance with the Article 11(1) of the Dhaka University Order, 1973.
DU running VC Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman called the special session under the Article 21(2) of Dhaka University Order, 1973.
The session was chaired by the Senate Chairman and VC Akhtaruzzaman.
The three Professors are- Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman from Department of Islamic History and Culture, Dr Muhammad Samad from Institute of Social Welfare and Research and Dr ASM Maksud Kamal from the Department of Disaster Science and Management.
Convener of the 'White Group' Dr ABM Obaidul Islam told the FE, "We remained absent boycotting the session, as the Senate is questioned."
He added, "At the time of teacher representatives' election, a panel of Blue Group was cancelled illegally and after that Registered Graduate Representatives Election and DU Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election were held controversially. So, the entire Senate is questioned."
