Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Vice-President (VP) Shadik Kayem has quit Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir. He most recently served as the organisation's Central Secretary for International Affairs.
The development was confirmed on Monday by Chhatra Shibir Secretary General Sibghatullah Sibga.
Explaining his departure, Shadik said the organisation undertakes structural reorganisation twice a year and that his resignation was part of its semi-annual restructuring process for 2026.
Currently serving as DUCSU Vice-President, Shadik rose to prominence for his role in coordinating organisational activities during the July-August 2024 mass uprising.
On May 1, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami announced him as its mayoral candidate for the upcoming Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election at a conference held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in Kakrail.
Following the announcement, Chhatra Shibir reiterated that its office-bearers are not permitted to contest elections on behalf of any political party while holding organisational posts. In accordance with that policy, Shadik relinquished his position during the organisation's latest restructuring.
He is widely expected to formally join Jamaat-e-Islami and contest the forthcoming DSCC mayoral election as the party's candidate.
Shadik joined Chhatra Shibir in 2013 and publicly emerged as president of the organisation's Dhaka University unit on September 21, 2024. Since January 2026, he had served as Central Secretary for International Affairs, having previously held the post of Central Publication Secretary for the 2025-26 term.
