EC extends deadline for election observers

The Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) has extended the deadline for submitting applications to deploy local election observers until December 29, ahead of the 13th National Election and referendum.

The decision was taken in response to requests from election observer agencies seeking more time to complete the application process, the EC said.

The information was disclosed in a letter sent on Sunday by Md Ashadul Haque, Assistant Director of the EC, to registered observer agencies.

According to the letter, local observers intending to monitor the electoral process, either centrally or on a constituency basis in different areas, had earlier been asked to submit their applications by December 21.

"Against the backdrop of applications submitted by the observer organisations, the Honourable Commission has decided to extend the deadline for applications for observer deployment until office hours on December 29, 2025," the letter said.

The EC further stated that, following approval from the Commission, identity cards and vehicle stickers for central observers will be issued by the Election Commission Secretariat.
