EC extends voter list updating deadline to April 7

The Election Commission (EC) has extended the voter list updating deadline until April 27 for those whose data could not be collected or was dropped from the latest updating process, reports UNB.

"More importantly, the process to be a voter through online will continue all time," Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmsed said at a press briefing on primary data collected for updating the voter list at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon on Tuesday.

He said the field-level officials collected data on around 4.9 million people, who are eligible to be voters, until Monday, last date of the door-to-door data collection campaign that started on January 20 simultaneously in the country.

"Those whose data were collected will be listed as voters on completion of the registration process," he said.

Besides, the data of around deceased 1.5 million voters were collected and their names would be dropped out from the final voter list, the EC official shared.

He said they earlier set a target of registering 6.1 million people as new voters this year

Revealing the statistics of data collection, Akhtar Ahmed said this time the voter growth rate is 3.9 per cent.

Of them, the exclusion rate has increased by 2.44 percent and the registration rate sees an increase by 1.45 percent, he said.
