‘EC has no option, but to conduct fair polls’

Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud has said the Election Commission (EC) has no option, but to conduct a fair election in order to restore public trust in the electoral process, reports BSS.

"The EC has no choice other than conducting a fair election. It is necessary for the nation and its people to restore confidence in the electoral process. There is no room to back down as our backs areagainst the wall," he said.

The Commissioner told the news agency at his office at Election Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon on Saturday.

Masud said the next parliamentary polls will be held prior to the Eid-ul-Fitr in February next.

He emphasised that election process is progressing swiftly, leaving no possibility of turning back.
