EC to curb neglect of duty, code violation sternly

Khulna, Apr 29 (UNB): Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury said on Sunday the Election Commission (EC) would not backtrack in taking action against those involved in negligence of duty and violation of election code of conduct in the upcoming city corporation polls in Khulna billed for May 15.
"The Election Commission is trying to hold the election as fair and neutral as the whole world is keeping its eye on the election," he said while speaking at the co-ordination committee meeting as chief guest at Khulna Circuit House.
He also urged all to come forward and provide their assistance in the mission of the EC.
There will be 289 polling centers, each of which will be provided with some 22 members of law enforcing agencies; in certain cases it may be 24 for important centres.
Besides, BGB, Rab and police will be on patrol during the election time.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Lokman Hossain Mia presided over the meeting.
DIG of Khulna range Didar Ahmed, KMP Commissioner Humayun Kabir, Rab-6 Commanding Officer Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, deputy commissioner Amin Ul Ahsan and superintendent of police Nizamul Haque Mollah of Knulna were present, among others, at the
meeting.
