Speakers tell UODA seminar

Effective media role imperative for credible election

Speakers at a seminar in the city on Saturday underscored the need for effective role of the media to ensure that the 11th parliamentary election is held in a free, fair and credible manner.

They also focused on reporting based on facts and proper data so that holding of the election can be ultimately successful.

The seminar titled 11th National Parliamentary Election: The Role of Media was organised by the Communication and Media Studies Department of University of Development Alternative (UODA) on its Dhanmondi campus, said a press release.

Muhammad Sohul Hossain, a former election commissioner, attended it as the chief discussant.

He acknowledged the necessity of positive role of the media in election citing his previous experiences in conducting the 9th parliamentary election.

Mahmood Menon Khan, executive editor of Sarabangla.net, also addressed the event.

He stressed ensuring availability of credible information standing against rumour.

M Mahbub Alam, chairman of the Communication and Media Studies Department, presided over the programme. Lecturer Mahadi Hasan delivered the keynote speech.

UODA Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ahmed Ullah Miah, Registrar Prof Dr Iffat Chowdhury, Deputy Registrar Foyjun Nahar and Trustee Board Secretary Munir Ahmed were also present, among others.
