The Election Officers' Conference is set to be held on Sept 27 with the aim of conducting a "free, fair and impartial" 13th national election next year, reports bdnews24.com.
On Tuesday, Bangladesh Election Commission Officers' Association (BECOA) Convener Mohammad Monir Hossain said that the conference will be organised at the Election Commission headquarters, with all officials expected to attend.
The association has raised three demands, including the promulgation of the "Election Commission Secretariat (Amendment) Ordinance-2025" as soon as possible, taking effective steps to form the "Election Commission Service", and handing the EC's own officials the responsibility of conducting the national polls. "The association has sent recommendations to the commission to ensure free, fair and impartial elections. The commission has taken these into consideration," said Monir. "Besides, the Electoral Reform Commission has also drawn some recommendations for better elections." The BECOA demanded that the Election Commission Secretariat's own officers be appointed as officers in the next parliamentary elections.
"If the commission's own officials are given the responsibility, they will conduct the vote with sincerity and seriousness. The Bangladesh Election Commission has a skilled workforce at the field level."
