Ex-DNCC mayor Atiqul sent to jail

A Dhaka court has sent to jail former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam in a case lodged with Uttara East Police Station over the murder of one Bokul Miah during the student-led mass uprising, reports BSS.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order on Friday as police produced him before the court after end of his five-day remand in the case and pleaded to keep him behind the bars.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury on November 13 had placed Atiqul on a five-day remand.

Police arrested the former DNCC mayor from the capital's Mohakhali DOHS area on October 16. The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ali Haider the next day sent Atiqul Islam to jail, showing him arrested in three separate murder cases.
