Ex-mayor Babul sent to jail

CHATTOGRAM, Apr 29 (BSS): A Chattogram court has ordered to send former mayor of Patiya Municipality and Awami League (AL) leader Md Ayub Babul to jail rejecting his bail petition.

District and Sessions Judge Nurul Islam passed the order on Tuesday while Babul appeared before the court to seek bail.

He is an accused in a number of cases including attacking students and general protesters during July uprising in Patiya municipal areas.

Ayub Babul was also vice-president of the Patiya upazila unit of AL.

Babul's name has been mentioned in a case, filed with Patiya Police for attacking students on August 4 last year.

Detained Babul is wanted in other cases- including attack, ransack, looting of local BNP office and attempt to murder.
