A house of Awami league (AL)'s former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel was set on fire in Chattogram on Thursday night amid protests over the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Osman Hadi, report agencies.
The incident took place around 11:00 pm in the Chashmahill area of the city, where agitated protesters torched a motorcycle inside the house, which also belongs to former Chattogram mayor Mohiuddin Chowdhury.
Earlier, students and activists under the banner of Inqilab Moncho staged a protest rally at Soloshahar No. 2 Gate, demanding punishment for those involved in Hadi's killing. The protesters later marched toward Mayor Goli, where the arson incident occurred.
Another group of protesters simultaneously held a demonstration and sit-in programme in front of the Indian government mission office in the Khurshi area of the city.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Panchlaish Police Station Md Solaiman said around 200 protesters gathered in the Soloshahar and No. 2 Gate areas to protest the killing of Inqilab Moncho leader Osman Hadi.
Meanwhile, The residences of two Awami League (AL) leaders have been vandalised and torched in Jhenaidah following the death of Inqilab Moncho Convenor Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
The attacks occurred in the early hours of Friday in Jhenaidah town's Damdo and Hatkhola, according to Bellal Hossain, an additional police superintendent.
A mob first attacked the residence of Kanak Kanti Das, a former chairman of the district council, at Damdo, he said.
Kanak was also a former vice-president of AL's local unit, according to police.
The attackers took furniture from Kanak's residence out on the street and then set it on fire.
The next attack was launched on the house of Mizanur Rahman Masum, who was president of the municipality unit of the AL.
The Army and Rapid Action Battalion later brought the situation under control.
On the other hand, A house of former Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing has been set on fire in Bandarban.
The fire broke out at the residence in the Rajar Math area shortly after midnight on Thursday. Bandarban Fire Service said it received a report of the blaze around 12:55 am.
Witnesses said a group of around 20 to 25 men had earlier held a brief protest march at a traffic intersection in Bandarban town following news of the death of Inqilab Moncho leader Sharif Osman Hadi.
Besides, protesters demolished the Rajshahi Metropolitan Awami League (AL) office in the city using a bulldozer during protests on Thursday night over the death of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho.
The protesters first gathered at Saheb Bazar Zero Point before marching to the AL office around 11:30 pm under the banner 'Students Against Hegemony', witnesses said.
