Ex-minister Qamrul, ex-MP Jakob sent to jail in murder cases

A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent former food minister Qamrul Islam to jail in a case, lodged over the murder of trader Abdul Wadud in the capital's New Market area, reports BSS.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub passed the order, as police produced Qamrul before the court after end of his eight-day remand in the case and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the end of probe.
The court of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman on November 19 had placed the former minister on eight-day remand in the case.
Police arrested the former minister from a house in the Uttara Sector-12 area on November 18. Abdul Wadud was killed on July 19 during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Wadud's relative Abdur Rahman filed the case on August 21 against 130 people.
Meanwhile, another Dhaka court sent former lawmaker of Bhola-4 Abdullah Al Islam Jakob to jail on Tuesday in a case, lodged over the murder of Shamim Hawlader in the capital's Rupnagar area during the July-August mass uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Md Zunaid passed the order, as police produced the former lawmaker before the court after end of his three-day remand in the case and pleaded to keep him behind the bars.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Imran Ahammed placed Jakob on a three-day remand in the case on November 20. He was arrested from the capital's Gulshan area on October 1.
Shamim Hawlader got shot in Probeshika intersection area under Rupnagar Police Station in the capital on July 20. He died from his injuries in the hospital. Shamim's cousin Samrat later filed the case in this connection.
