The Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested former secretary Abu Alam Md Shahid Khan.
Mohammad Nasirul Islam, joint commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) Police, said the former secretary was detained from Borak Tower in the capital's Eskaton area on Monday (8 September) in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with the Shahbagh Police Station.
Later, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman sent him to jail after hearing a petition submitted by Sub-Inspector Toufiq Hasan, the investigation officer of the case.
Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said that along with Abu Alam, a total of six people including five others who took part in a sudden procession, were arrested in the Shahbagh case.Abu Alam previously served as Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister during the Awami League government from 1996 to 2001.
