Ex-state minister Dipankar, ex-MP Majid Khan land in jail

A Dhaka court has sent to jail former state minister of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Dipankar Talukdar in a case lodged over the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim, report agencies.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jashida Islam passed the order on Tuesday as police

produced him before the court with a seven-day remand prayer in the case.

The defence, however, argued for his bail.

As the main case documents were not produced before the court during the hearing, the court sent the accused to jail and will hold hearing on the remand and bail matters later.

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Dipankar from the city's Sobahanbagh

area on February 10.

Meanwhile, a Habiganj court has sent former Awami League MP of Habiganj-2 constituency Majid Khan to jail in a murder case.

Judge of Habiganj Chief Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Abdul Ali passed the order on Tuesday after police produced him before the court, said Baniachong Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Golam Mostafa.

Earlier on Monday, police arrested him from the capital's Farmgate area and handed over to the Baniachong police station.

Police said the former MP is the second accused in a case over the killing of nine people during the anti-government movement.
