BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the world is playing a silent spectator's role after Israeli air strikes on Lebanon's Beirut.
He further said question is also now in public minds about the role of the United Nations (UN) in this regard.
Mr Mirza Fakhrul made the comments in a statement sent to the media issued on Thursday.
"Many women, children and men were the victims of the Israeli air strikes. Many infrastructures were destroyed. Whereas the world is playing a silent spectator's role even after seeing the barbaric incidents of Israeli attacks on Lebanon. I strongly condemn and protest it," he said.
"The United Nations (UN) Security Council is holding discussion after discussion. But no concrete steps have been taken so far to stop this deadly and dangerous war. Question has arisen in public mind about the effectiveness of the United Nations."
"I call upon all parties concerned to stop this deadly, meaningless and senseless war immediately," he addeded.
Meanwhile, BNP has formed a 10-member central training affairs committee.
The party disclosed it in a circular signed by its Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Thursday.
BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan was made as a convener while training affairs secretary of the party ABM Mosharraf Hossain was appointed member secretary of the committee.
The members of the committee are: Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, adviser to the party's chairperson Ismail Jabiullah, convener of the party's media cell Dr Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel, training affairs secretary Rashida Begum Hira, mass education affairs secretary Prof Morshed Hasan Khan, relief and rehabilitation affairs secretary Advocate Newaz Halima Arli, assistant mass education affairs secretary Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon and member of the party's executive committee Md Abdus Sattar Patwary.
In another event, BNP joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie said on Friday Sheikh Hasina sitting in India is hatching conspiracy against the country.
He made the comment at a discussion while inaugurating a free medicare camp for flood affected people at Aman Ullah Ayesha Dakhil Madrasha in Laximpur sadar upazila.
He demanded that the interim government immediately hold trial of the persons responsible for killing students, children and people during the July-August mass uprising against the Sheikh Hasina regime.
In another development, police have detained a person on charge of impersonating APS to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The detainee was identified as Arif Hossain.
Hailing from Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district, Arif Hossain is a resident of Pallabi in the capital.
