Five on remand in Ananta killing case

SYLHET Sept 16: A Sylhet court granted on Wednesday a seven-day remand to five accused in the Ananta Bijoy Das murder case.

Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2 judge Md Anwarul Haque passed the order when Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Inspector of CID Arman Ali prayed for a 15-day remand each, court sources informed. They accused are UK citizen Touhidur Rahman, Sadek Ali Mihu, Ashikul Mallik, Ariful Haque and Zakirul Haque Gama, all arrested from the capital days ago.

Meanwhile, a court in Sylhet deferred on Wednesday the charge framing in the sensational case for killing 13-year-old Samiul Alam Rajon until 22 September.

The case was transferred to the Sylhet Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court from the Metropolitan Magistrate Court on September 7.

Inspector of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Suronjit Talukder, also investigation officer of the case, filed charge sheet accusing 13 on August 16. The prime accused Kamrul Islam, now under the Saudi police custody, his brother Shamim and one Pabel were shown fugitive in the charge sheet, while 10 are in jail.

Rajon was tortured to death on July 8 last at Kumargaon bus stand in Sylhet city by the accused on the false allegation of stealing a van.
