Former acting mayor of Sylhet, six others held

SYLHET, Feb 17 BSS): Former acting mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Azam Khan and six others were arrested under 'operation devil hunt' in the last 24 hours till Monday morning.

The joint forces comprising police, RAB and army raided different parts of the city and arrested Md Azam Khan, also a leader of Awami League Sylhet city unit.

He was the councilor of ward number 27 of the corporation.

The joint forces also arrested banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Sairul Kabir Sanjoy, his brother Bangabandhu Juba Parishad leader Sunny Kabir, Juba League leader of Tetli union under South Surma thana Abdul Basit alias Mokon Miah, and Md Moinul Islam, library secretary of district Tanti League.

Meanwhile, a team of RAB-9 raided Goabari area of the city and arrested Helal Miah, assistant office secretary of the city unit Juba League. Helal, son of Sultan Miah of Korerpara area, was accused in an explosive case.

He was later handed over to Kotwali thana.
