Gazipur, Khulna city corporation polls on May 15

The Gazipur and Khulna city corporations will go to polls on May 15. The elections for the two city corporations have been scheduled after the HSC exams, but before the start of Ramadan, reports bdnews24.com.

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda made the announcement at the end of an Election Commission (EC) meeting on Saturday and laid out the schedule for the polls.

According to the schedule, candidates for the position of mayor, general and reserved councillors must submit their nomination applications to the returning officer by April 12. The submissions for the Gazipur election will be scrutinised on April 14 and 15, and those for the Khulna election on April 15 and 16, with April 23 set as the deadline to withdraw from the race.

The Gazipur and Khulna city election schedules were announced after the government gave the EC the green light to hold polls in five city corporations ahead of the general election.
