Gazipur people choose 'boat' for development: Quader

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader in a formal reaction over victory of the party candidate in Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls said on Wednesday the people have voted for their election symbol 'boat' being imbued with the spirit of ongoing development works as well as the Liberation War, reports BSS.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, was addressing a post-poll briefing at the AL president Sheikh Hasina's Dhanmondi political office in the capital.

Expressing his gratitude to the people of Gazipur city for casting their votes for Nouka (Boat), he said, "The residents of Gazipur city want development and so they voted for 'nouka' in the GCC polls."

The minister said the GCC polls were held in a free, fair and neutral manner, thanking all the stakeholders such as officials of Election Commission (EC) and members of law enforcement agencies for presenting the nation such a wonderful election.

"The huge presence of the voters has proved the GCC election was held in a free, fair and neutral manner," he added.

He also hoped that the people will cast their votes for 'boat' in all the upcoming elections particularly in the next general election to continue the huge ongoing development works being carried out across the country bythe AL government, saying, "I hope the countrymen will also cast their votes for 'Nouka' in the next general elections in a bid to continue the pace of current development."
