CHATTOGRAM, Mar 01 (BSS): Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar has urged the government to halt post-election violence and take effective measures to promote political tolerance for the betterment of Bangladesh.

Professor Mia Golam Parwar made the call as the chief guest at an Iftar Mahfil hosted by the Chattogram City Jamaat Islami to honour distinguished individuals at the GEC Convention Centre in the city on Sunday.

He emphasised the need to establish a new Bangladesh by moving away from the violent events that occurred during the student and people's revolution in July.

"We all committed to fostering a culture of tolerance and acceptance in politics. Our Ameer provided a great analogy, comparing the government party and the opposition party to two wheels of a bicycle. He emphasised that just as a bicycle cannot move without both wheels, a state's democratic progress relies on the coordination and cooperation between these two entities," he explained. Expressing deep concern, Mia Golam Parwar lamented, "Following the elections, we have witnessed a surge in intolerance and violence across the country. It is disheartening to see winners attacking and setting fire to the homes of the losers and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists, which is completely unacceptable."

He further stated, "In the brutal attack on our leaders and activists in Jibannagar, Chuadanga, after Iftar last Saturday, one person was killed, and many others are hospitalized with severe injuries."
