Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told on Wednesday Parliament that Bangladesh's governance system will be decentralised by 2041 as the country will turn into a developed one by this time, reports UNB.

"Through the implementation of 'Vision 2041', Bangladesh will become a peaceful, prosperous, happy and developed country by 2041. The governance system will be decentralised by this time," she said replying to a tabled question from treasury bench lawmaker M Abdul Latif (Chattogram-11).

She said the lion's share of the government expenses will be implemented at the local level.

"The local administration will carry out the responsibility (of expending the government funds). The plans will be designed with clear coordination between the local and the central administrations," said the Prime Minister.

She said good governance, and capacity and empowerment of the people will be key policy for the progress of the country.

Mentioning that the economy of Bangladesh stands at a strong position, Sheikh Hasina said investment is increasing gradually and the balance of payment remains good thanks to high growth in export and remittance.

She also said inflation remains under control while budget deficit remains limited within 5 per cent GDP.

It can be expected that the economic growth will accelerate further in the days to come, she said.

"Bangladesh will turn into a developed nation with $16,000 per capita income and the poverty will be a matter of distant past in this Sonar Bangla (Golden Bangla) in 2041," the Prime Minister said.

According to the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2019 of the United Nations, Bangladesh was one of the top 10 growing economies in the world in 2018, she said.
