Govt takes prog to enhance lawmakers' skills: Speaker

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said on Monday the government has taken a programme to enhance skills of the members of parliaments and the officials of the parliament secretariat, reports BSS.

The Speaker came up with the remarks while speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day workshop on 'Leadership Training for Secretariat Officials of Bangladesh Parliament' jointly organised by Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad, UNDP and Common Purpose International at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the city.

"As per the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a programme has been taken to increase expertise of the parliament lawmakers and parliament secretariat officials," she said.

A large team of the 10th parliament officials have been imparted training at the Indian Lok Shaba, the lower house of the Indian parliament, she added.

Besides, the expertise enhancement training of the officials is also going on with the Westminster Foundation of the United Kingdom, the Speaker told the function.

The capacity building training already has been imparted to the lawmakers through the UNDP, Dr Shirin Sharmin noted. "It is very much important to make the parliament secretariat officials capable through imparting them training as the role of these officials is important in parliament operation," she explained.+
