The government has taken the initiative to construct 876 union parishad (UP) complex buildings across the country by June 2017 with a view to making the local government system more effective, reports UNB.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has recently approved a project in this regard, titled 'Construction of Union Parishd Complex Buildings (2nd phase) Project' to be implemented at a cost of Tk 7.80 billion to be borne entirely from the government fund.
The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) under the Local Government Division of the LGRD Ministry will implement the project by June 2017.
The main objective of the project is to reach services of the government to the grassroots level as well as to render one-stop services to the commoners through establishing UP complex buildings, said an official at the Planning Ministry.
The official said that out of the proposed 876 UP complex buildings, there will be 700 new buildings while work on 176 buildings, which could not be started in the first phase, will come in the 2nd phase.
