Attorney General (AG) Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal has said the present government wants the judiciary to function independently, reports BSS.
"In my first three months as Attorney General, I have not faced any political pressure or requests to influence legal cases or individuals. The justice system has remained free from political interference, he said."
This proves that the present government wants the judiciary to function independently," he said.
The chief state counsel said this while addressing as chief guest at the annual general meeting (AGM) of the Supreme Court Reporters Forum (SRF) at Dhaka Club in the capital on Saturday.
Recalling his past career as a journalist, the AG said the primary responsibility of a reporter in the field of reporting is to present the facts before the public.
The AG also stressed the importance of ensuring that justice is administered through the courts and warned against conducting 'media trials.'
The attorney general also called upon the mainstream media to play an active role in countering misinformation on social media and online platforms by presenting accurate and factual information.
Presided over by outgoing SRF President Masudur Rahman Rana, the AGM was addressed, among others, by International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam, BNP Legal Affairs Secretary Barrister Badruddoza Badal, Supreme Court Bar Secretary Advocate Mohammad Ali, and senior lawyer Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir.
