Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Sunday the government will not allow any evil efforts to destroy the people's peace and comfort in the name of any programme, reports UNB.

"BNP again returned to its politics of carrying out arson attacks by setting fire to buses recently. People do not respond to their movement because of evil politics," he said.

The AL leader came up with the remarks while speaking at the inauguration of a connecting road construction project at BNS Sheikh Hasina in Cox's Bazar.

He joined the function through videoconferencing from his official residence on the parliament premises in the city.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said BNP resorted to arson terrorism to avenge their defeat in polls and movement. Distorting the history of independence is BNP's democracy, he added.

He said every party has the right to observe peaceful political programmes, but if BNP wants to destroy peace and comfort of the people in the name of political programme, Awami League along with the people will give a befitting reply.

The minister said though BNP denied their involvement in the recent arson attack on buses, video-footages revealed everything.

"Mask cannot hide faces. It is not possible to hide everything through cunning comments. If BNP loses any polls, they shift the liability to the government and the Election Commission. When they win, they claim that they could win in bigger margin if the government does not interfere in polls," he said.

The AL general secretary said BNP is staying far away from the role they should play to strengthen democracy.

Turning to road infrastructural development, he said the 80-kilometre marine drive has brought a significant change in visiting the sea beach and enjoying the natural beauty in Cox's Bazar.

Development works of Ramu-Marichya national highway is underway while the work of four-lane highway from Cox's Bazar link road to Laboni point will end soon, he added.

Local lawmakers Saimun Sarwar Kamal, Zafar Alam, Asheq Ullah Rafiq, Cox's Bazar district unit of AL leaders, senior officials of Roads and Highways Department, Chattogram Zone joined the function in Cox's Bazar.
