KUSHTIA, Dec 01 (BSS): Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif expressed his optimism on Sunday that AL would become victorious in the forthcoming 11th parliamentary

election.

"We would win in the coming polls defeating the anti-liberation forces," he said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a joint extended meeting on coming general election of AL at AL office auditorium in Kushtia town.

Pointing out BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's remark that AL would not get more than 30 seats, Hanif said, "Fakhrul should ponder over whether he himself could win in his own constituency instead of thinking about AL."

"Earlier, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia spoke in the similar fashion about AL but they (BNP) themselves won only 29 seats in 2008…This time also will witness the same situation," he added.

Hanif said the BNP leaders often are stating that they have no confidence in the Election Commission (EC) and such utterances expose the party's dependence on the 'Aziz type' EC to manipulate the elections.

Kushtia city AL president Taijal Ali Khan presided over the meeting while Kushtia district Al president Sadar Uddin Khan, senior vice president Zila Parishad Chairman Rabiul Islam and general secretary Asgor Ali were present, among others.
