Awami League (AL) joint general secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif urged on Monday people to cast their votes in favour of 'boat', the electoral symbol of ruling Awami League, in the upcoming general election to maintain the current pace of development, reports BSS.

"The people should resist all conspiracies being hatched by the BNP- Jamaat clique and reject the anti-liberation forces in the upcoming national election. That's why I am urging all to cast their votes for boat again," he said.

He made the call as the chief guest while addressing a rally organised by Dhaka South Labour League in the city, the founding anniversary of Jatiya Sramik League.

"People have no trust on BNP as they have made an alliance 'Jatiya Oikya Front' with some leaders who have no ideology," he added.

He said hundreds of Awami League leaders and workers, including former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria and popular leader Ahsan Ullah Master, were killed during the BNP-Jamaat tenure from 2001 to 2005.

Chaired by Dhaka South Sramik League President Shamsul Alam Bakul, the rally was addressed by Labour and Manpower Affairs Secretary of Awami League Habibur Rahman Siraj, Executive President of Jatiya Sramik League Fazlul Haque Montu and its General Secretary Sirajul Islam and Vice President Aminul Islam Faruque.
