HC denies Khaleda Zia's bail plea in graft case

The High Court (HC) turned down a plea of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for bail in Zia Charitable Trust graft case, report agencies.

A HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman passed the order after holding hearing on the plea for second consecutive day.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 on October 29, 2018, sentenced the BNP chief and three others to seven-year imprisonment and fined them Taka 1.0 million each,in default, have to suffer more six months in jail, in the case.

Khaleda Zia on November 18, 2019, filed an appeal against her conviction.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with the city's Tejgaon thana on August 8, 2010, for embezzling Tk 31.5 million while police on January 16, 2012, filed charge sheet against four including the ex- premier.
