Hefazat blocks road, demands withdrawal of cases

BRAHMANBARIA, Feb 26 (UNB): Leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam have blocked Cumilla-Sylhet highway, demanding withdrawal of the cases filed against their leaders.

The leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam under the banner of Alem-Ulama and Touhidi Janata took to the street around Kautoli intersection around 10:00 am on Wednesday, disrupting vehicular movement.

They said a number of false cases were filed against the leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam during the ousted Awami League government's tenure.

They also threatened to continue protests until the withdrawal of the cases.

Vehicular movement normalised after 1:00 pm after police intervention.
