The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in the capital on Thursday directed the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) and the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to preserve all digital data of the July-August mass uprising last year.
A tribunal bench headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the prosecution team.
Later in a briefing, Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam confirmed the tribunal's order.
"The court has instructed the relevant authorities to ensure that this crucial data is preserved separately." Tajul Islam said referring to the data stored in NTMC and BTRC during the mass uprising.
"This is because, in the future, such data from the time of the July-August mass uprising may be needed for judicial purposes," the judge said.
Tajul Islam further said that investigation agency of the ICT has been instructed to conduct a comprehensive probe into the digital information.
All the telecommunication operators and internet service providers in the country have been directed to cooperate with the investigation agency to give information and data of the mass uprising, the lawyer further said.
Meanwhile, ICT has summoned a reporter of Bengali daily Kalbela to appear before it on January 20 for giving an explanation over a report published in the newspaper.
