ICT sets May 12 for report against Atiqul, nine others

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has set May 12 for submitting probe report in a case lodged against 10 people, including former Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam, over alleged genocides and crimes against humanity committed in the capital's Uttara area during the July-August mass uprising, report agencies.The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order on Sunday, allowing a plea of the prosecution for two months more time for submitting the report.
The other accused are Awami League (AL) Uttara East unit education affairs secretary Md Shahinur Miah, its Uttara West unit president Monowarul Islam Chowdhury Robin, AL Gazipur city unit organizing secretary Abdullah Al Mamun Mondal, Uttara sector 6 AL president Md Bashir Uddin, Jubo League leader Delwar Hossain Rubel, former Uttara Police Station officer-in-charge Mozibur Rahman, Assistant Deputy Commissioner of police Javed Iqbal and constable Hossain Ali and Omar Ali.
The tribunal also set March 16 and 18 for interrogating Mozibur Rahman and Javed Iqbal respectively. It also issued arrest warrant against three former police officials over genocides that took place in the capital's Rampura area during the July-August mass uprising.
Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam took part in the hearing before the tribunal, while prosecutor Abdus Subhan tarafder, Md Mizanul Islam, BM Sultan Mahmud, Gazi MH Tamim, Md Shahidul Islam, Abdullah Al Noman, Moinul Karim and Tarek Abdullah were present, among others.
