Islami Chhatra Andolan declares full panel for DUCSU polls

Islami Chhatra Andolan (ICA) Bangladesh has become the first student organisation to announce a full panel of candidates and a detailed manifesto ahead of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election, scheduled for September 9.

The announcement was made at a press conference in front of the DUCSU building on Thursday.

From the organisation, Yasin Arafat, central executive member of ICA DU unit, will contest for the vice president (VP) post. Khairul Ahsan Marzan, central assistant secretary, has been nominated for the general secretary (GS) position, and Saif Mohammad Alauddin, DU unit secretary, will run for assistant general secretary (AGS).

Other candidates on the panel include Abu Bakar, Mohammad Ali, A Rahman Mahfuz, Plabon Ahmed, Zuraia Akter, Elias Talukder, Muinul Islam, Imran Hossain, Ismail Hossain, Sabbir Ahmed, Mansurul Haque Shanto, Mosammat Habiba, Shahriar Jabir, Omar Faruk, Afzal Hossain Siam, Nurul Jannat Manna, Ikramul Kabir, Mohammad Riyad, Arian Mahmud Russell, Rezaul Karim, Erfan Mohammad, Jakia Moon, Abdur Rahim, and Abdur Rahman Mahfuz.

Presenting the manifesto, ICA DU unit president Md. Abu Bakkar Siddiq said if elected, the panel would prioritise improving campus facilities, including better ventilation and cooling in female dormitories, digitalising administrative services, ensuring a safer and more inclusive learning environment, and expanding housing and academic resources.

He also emphasised increasing research support, modernising classrooms and online systems, addressing students' complaints effectively, upgrading healthcare services with mental health support, and offering career guidance and skill-based training.

He further pledged full transparency in using student funds, and called for peaceful coexistence among all student organisations, aiming to establish constructive student politics. He concluded with a promise to work together with all stakeholders to build a more student-focused and participatory DU campus.
