Jamaat, BNP men scuffle over campaigning

A clash has erupted between supporters of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami over the distribution of leaflets ahead of the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad elections.
The incident, which occurred near Pirerbagh Al Mobarak Mosque under Mirpur Model Police Station on Tuesday evening , left two Jamaat activists injured.
They were admitted to Kalyanpur Ibne Sina Hospital for treatment.
Tense situation was prevailing until the filling of the report around 9:00 pm.
Assistant Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Md Mizanur Rahman, said the supporters of BNP and Jamaat engaged in a scuffle. Police were deployed to control the situation.
Dhaka city Nayeb-e-Amir of Jamaat, Abdur Rahman Musa, said the wife of BNP candidate Milton was involved in an altercation with Jamaat women activists in the Sheorapara area. When Jamaat supporters went to the mosque for Maghrib prayers, they were reportedly confined and beaten by BNP supporters. Later, Jamaat supporters rushed to the scene, which led to a scuffle between the two groups.
