FE REPORT

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has organised a human chain programme to press home its five-point demands.

The party's leaders and activists formed the human chain along one side of the road stretching from Jatrabari to Gabtoli in the capital between 11 am and 12:00 noon on Tuesday.

Jamaat's five-point demands include holding a referendum to give legal basis to the July National Charter, and organising the next national election in February; incorporating the proportional representation (PR) system in both houses through the July Charter and placing it for a people's mandate in a referendum; ensuring a level playing field for all to make the national election free, fair, and acceptable; ensuring visible justice for acts of repression, mass killings, and corruption committed by the 'fascist government', and imposing a ban on the activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14-Party Alliance.

Marking the programme, Jamaat also held a brief rally at the Matsya Bhaban intersection, where central and city leaders of the party addressed the gathering.

The rally was presided over by Dhaka South City Jamaat Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, while Dhaka North City Jamaat Secretary Rezaul Karim conducted it.

Jamaat earlier announced the third phase of its programmes on Sunday as part of the ongoing movement to realise the five-point demands. The announced programmes include forming human chains in Dhaka and all divisional cities on Tuesday , and in all district towns today (Wednesday).
