Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam will hold a national rally at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the city at 02:00 pm today (Saturday), reports BSS.
Ameer-e-Jamaat Dr. Shafiqur Rahman will preside over the national rally, while Islamic and patriotic national leaders have been invited to attend the rally. They will also deliver important speeches, said a press release.
Ahead of the rally, the party held a press conference at the Abdus Salam Hall of the Jatiya Press Club on Thursday afternoon with Jamaat Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Parwar in the chair.
Prof Mia Golam Parwar said this historic national rally is going to be held with the aim of realising the seven-point demands.
The demands are: ensuring a level playing field for free, fair, impartial and peaceful conduct, trial of all genocides, necessary fundamental reforms, implementation of the July Charter and Declaration, rehabilitation of the families of those martyred and injured in the July mass uprising, holding national elections through the PR system and making arrangements for more than 10 million expatriates to vote, he said. He said that ensuring a level playing field is essential for holding free, fair and credible elections.
Meanwhile, the Narsingdi City Unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday held a rally and brought out a precession in support of the centrally announced national rally at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan.
The procession started at around 10:00 am from the Shikkha Chattar area in Brahmondi of Narsingdi city. It paraded through important roads of the city and ended in front of the Narsingdi Press Club, where a brief rally was held.
Around 200 party leaders and activists participated in the programme.
Narsingdi City Jamaat Ameer Azizur Rahman presided over the event, while Sadar unit Ameer Mahfuz Bhuiyan conducted it.
District Secretary General Vice Principal Maulana Amzad Hossain, Assistant District Secretary General Mokbul Hossain, Jamaat-nominated MP candidate for Narsingdi Sadar-1 Md Ibrahim Bhuiyan, and Islami Chhatra Shibir's Jameya Qasemia Kamil Madrasah unit president Mojahid Hossain addressed the rally.
The speakers said, "The rally has now turned into a mass movement aimed at restoring the people's right to vote and establishing Islamic values. The participation of hundreds of thousands at tomorrow's national assembly in Dhaka will prove that."
They also said the movement seeks to restore democracy, ensure a level playing field in elections, and press for a 7-point demand including proportional representation. The leaders urged full preparation to make the July 19 Dhaka rally a success.
