Despite calls from Awami League (AL) top brass as well as grassroots leaders, Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy said he is not interested to take up a post in the party's key bodies, report agencies.

"It would not be appropriate to hold a designation while being abroad. I want to work for the party and the country," he said while speaking to the media on Sunday.

Joy, who lives in the US and serves as Prime Minister Hasina's ICT affairs adviser, is representing the Awami League's Rangpur chapter as one of 6,750 councillors participating at the 20th national council.

The 45-year-old IT professional attended the councillors' session on Sunday, the second day of the two-day event.

On Saturday, when Hasina's son arrived the council venue at Suhrawardy Udyan, then AL general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said pointing at him, "Sheikh Hasina is our last resort. Now we have another last resort here. He will lead us

forward."

After Syed Ashraful Islam's speech several grassroots leaders urged, during their speeches, to induct Joy in the

central committee.
