JS election schedule to be unveiled in first week of Dec: CEC

BARISHAL, Oct 18 (UNB): Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said the schedule for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election will be announced in the first week of December.

"The Election Commission is committed to ensuring a free, fair and impartial election, vowing to overcome challenges," the CEC told reporters following two separate meetings in the district town on Saturday.

Of the two meetings, one was with the election officials of the Barishal division at the Regional Election Office in the morning, and the other with police and administrative officials at the Barishal Circuit House in the afternoon.

Reaffirming the Commission's pledge, Nasir Uddin said, "As per the oath I took upon assuming office, we are determined to deliver an exemplary election to the people of this country. I conveyed this to all concerned officials, and they have assured full cooperation to ensure a fair and impartial electoral process."

Responding to questions from journalists, the CEC clarified that political parties currently banned from political activities will not be allowed to participate in the election.

"The government has made it clear that such parties cannot join the polls until their legal proceedings are complete. This is not based on any suggestion from intelligence agencies or others - we will overcome all challenges and ensure a credible and inclusive election," he said.

Addressing the concerns over the credibility of past elections, he assured that such issues will not recur. "We will deliver a vote that is acceptable to all."
