July 15, 2026 00:00:00

Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury has said the July Memorial Museum is expected to be inaugurated soon as its construction and renovation works have almost been completed, reports BSS.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Cultural Affairs in the capital on Tuesday, he said the recruitment of manpower would be finalised at the first meeting of the newly formed Board of Trustees within the next few days.

The minister said the museum would be inaugurated at the earliest after approval from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

He said the museum was established following the decision of the interim government to preserve the significance, scale and impact of the July Mass Uprising.

Nitai Roy Chowdhury said the present government introduced structural changes and legal reforms to make the project more comprehensive and sustainable.

Responding to questions about the delay in inauguration and project costs, he said a Board of Trustees had already been formed to oversee the museum's management.

He added that establishing a permanent staffing structure and organisational framework for a full-fledged museum, along with legal approvals and regulatory amendments, took time.

Prime Minister's Adviser on Cultural Affairs Dr Jahed Ur Rahman said the ministry had taken special initiatives to preserve the memory and spirit of the July uprising.

He said all institutions under the ministry would organise cultural programmes, exhibitions and competitions nationwide from Wednesday.
