Samajtantrik Mohila Forum, a left-leaning women's organisation, on Wednesday demanded justice for Feni madrasa girl Nusrat Jahan Rafi who was set afire by some miscreants, reports UNB.
It made the demand from a human chain and a procession arranged in front of the National Press Club in the afternoon with the organisation's general secretary Shampa Basu in the chair.
Speakers at the programme alleged that torture, rape and killings of women and children are on the rise all over the country.
In the first three months of the current year, a total of 189 women fell victims to rape and 15 of them were killed after rape, they alleged.
One of the main reasons for the rise in violence against women is the failure to ensure justice for victims, the speakers said, adding that cases are not filed in all the incidents while those filed remain pending for years.
On April 6, Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi was set afire allegedly by students loyal to Principal Sirajuddoula of Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Rafi had accused him of sexually harassing her.
