April 08, 2018 00:00:00

Health Minister Mohammed Nasim assured on Saturday the BNP leaders that there will be no reluctances in treatment of Khaleda Zia and her healthcare, reports UNB.

The minister also asked BNP leaders to keep faith in government regarding the health care of BNP chairperson.

Inaugurating the World Health Day- 2018 programme at Osmani Memorial Auditorium, Nasim said, "We do not want Khaleda to stay in jail but she is now there for the court verdict and after her sickness, BNP leaders demanded sending Khaleda to a private hospital but I insist, you must keep faith in the government hospitals and government's sincerity over her health."

This year the theme of the day is 'Universal health coverage; everyone, everywhere'.

While talking about the present medical system, the minister asked the doctors and medical students not to be involved in politics in medical colleges and institutions because, to him, hospitals are not the place for politics rather these are places for rendering humanitarian services.

He also requested the doctors and medical workers not to halt medical services in the name of strike during any kind of demonstration or movement and said "you may even ask my resignation but should consider the sufferings of patients, never go for strike."

Nasim said "According to the recent report of World Health Organisation (WHO), the country's people have to spend lots of money out of their pocket, but if doctors are more sympathetic and do not prescribe expensive medicines and unnecessary pathological tests, the expenses will reduce automatically."
