Khaleda seeks HC bail again in Zia Charitable Trust case

FE Report | September 04, 2019 00:00:00

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday once again filed bail petition with the High Court (HC) in Zia Charitable Trust case in which she was sentenced to seven years jail by a special court of Dhaka.

Her lawyer Barrister Kayser Kamal filed the petition with the High Court yesterday.

The lawyer said the bail petition was filed on different grounds citing that she is a 74-year-old woman and was the prime minister for three times.

The High Court bench of Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice ASM Abdul Mobin may hear the case, added the lawyer.

Earlier on July 31 this year, the HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman rejected her bail petition considering gravity of the offence mentioned in the case.

A Dhaka court on October 29 last year convicted and sentenced Khaleda to seven years' imprisonment in the case.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station on August 08, 2011.

The BNP chief was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) from jail on April 01 this year for treatment.

Meanwhile, A Dhaka court has set December 03 for submitting probe report in a case filed against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and three others on charge of killing 42 persons during nationwide blockade programme called by BNP-Jamaat alliance in 2015, reports BSS.

Today (Tuesday) was fixed for submitting the report, but Gulshan thana officer-in-charge (OC) failed to submit the report. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain then set new date to submit the report.

The other three accused are Barrister Rafikul Islam Miah, Prof Emazuddin Ahmed and Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury.

Jananetri Parishad president AB Siddiqui filed the case against the four on February 2, 2015, with a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court Atiqur Rahman.
