Awami League advisory council member and also Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Tuesday said the law enforcement agencies would do whatever necessary to safeguard public lives and properties centring the verdict against BNP chief Khaleda Zia, reports BSS.
"If BNP activists take to the street on the verdict day and create anarchy and chaos, then not the Awami League, rather the law enforcement agencies would take the street to tackle such situation," said the minister after an MoU signing ceremony at the conference room of the ministry of commerce.
Tofail Ahmed said not only Awami League, but also the law enforcement agencies would stay on the roads on that day when the verdict of the case against BNP chief Khaleda Zia would be declared.
He also expressed his belief that BNP would not be involved in any anarchic incident in the near future after taking lesson from the past.
Asked about the arrest of the BNP leaders and activists, Tofail said a case has already been filed against those who attacked the policemen, snatched away accused from the prison van as well as broke down police weapons.
"The police are arresting only those who are accused in that case,"
Turning again to the possible verdict of the fund embezzlement case against Khaleda Zia to be delivered on Thursday, Tofail said: "We don't know what the verdict will be. She (Khaleda) might get relieved from the case or there may be any other thing. Since it's a judiciary matter, it won't be appropriate to make any comment before the verdict is given."
