SHERPUR, Oct 6 (UNB): Local people, including the families of martyred during July Uprising, on Monday besieged the office of Sherpur Deputy Commissioner, (DC) protesting bail granted to an Awami League leader Chandan Kumar Pal in a murder case.
The protesters gathered in front of the DC office and Sherpur District and Session Judge Court around 9:00 am and besieged the gate of the office and staged demonstration, halting official activities.
Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Tarafdar Mahmudur appeared at the spot and requested them to leave the place.
Following assurance from DC, the protesters left the place at 12:00 noon and submitted their eight-point demand to him.
The protesters also threatened to go for an indefinite sit-in programme if their demands are not met by two days.
The demands include removing Shepur District Judge Zahirul Kabir, Public Prosecutor Advocate Abdul Mannan and Government Pleader Mahbubul Alam Rakib for allegedly providing safe exit to the AL leader Chandan Kumar Pal; identifying those who betrayed the July movement and were involved in 'case trading'; ensuring punishment and necessary action against the political leader who allegedly threatened to withdraw cases and taking legal action against those within the judiciary accused of aiding AL affiliates.
