Public hearings on the delimitation of 28 constituencies across six districts including Dhaka and neighbouring ones were held on Tuesday.
Participants from various constituencies raised 259 objections to the proposed constituency delimitations and submitted 50 suggestions to the EC.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin presided over the hearings, which lasted for 7 hours from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm at the Election Commission (EC) headquarters in the city's Agargaon area.
Other election commissioners and the secretary of the EC Secretariat were present in the hearing.
Voters of Kamrangirchar have demanded that ward 55, 56 and 57 remain part of Dhaka-2 constituency.
Residents of Dohar-Nawabganj requested the EC to create a separate Dhaka-1 parliamentary constituency.
Meanwhile, representatives of Gazipur BNP, along with the locals, congratulated and thanked the EC for adding a constituency in consideration of the increased population.
District BNP Convener AKM Fazlul Haque Milon said they had long been expecting an increase is seats for Gazipur.
Hailing the EC, he said: "We are grateful for the generosity you have shown to the people of Gazipur. You have taken a timely decision."
He assured that he would provide any kind of assistance for a fair election.
In the hearing, the local residents demanded the reinstatement of four constituencies in Manikganj and Munshiganj.
In addition, local public representatives and lawyers have demanded the addition of a constituency in Narayanganj, citing the high number of voters.
Today (Wednesday) marks the fourth day of hearing, which began on Sunday. The hearings will cover the claims and objections from Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Faridpur and Sylhet regions.
