Minister visits ailing writer Rama Chy at Ctg hospital

CHITTAGONG, Jan 14: Awami League general secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader visited today the ailing female writer Rama Chowdhury at the Medical Centre in the city.
The 70 -year- old writer has been suffering from different diseases including diabetes and gall bladder problem for a long time and was admitted to the hospital a few days back by the deputy commissioner of Chittagong.
On arrival at Chittagong to address a condolence meeting on the death of former city mayor and Chittagong city Awami League president ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury in the city, the minister went to see the health condition and treatment of Rama Chowdhury in the private hospital this noon.
He enquired about her health problems and medical treatment from Chittagong Civil Surgeon Azizul Islam Siddiqui, leaders of Bangladesh Medical Association Chittagong unit and doctors at the Medical Centre at the GEC intersection.
Obaidul Quader said he had heard from the party workers and other sources that Rama Chowdhury's financial condition is very poor and she lives on selling books written by her from door to door on bare foot. She lost two sons during the Liberation War of 1971 and now has only son Jahar Lal Chowdhury.
On her treatment cost, the minister said the Medical Centre did not take any money from her family until today (Sunday). He has deposited a cheque for Tk 0.2 million to the hospital management for providing all necessary treatment.
Deputy publicity secretary of the Awami League central committee Aminul Islam Amin, deputy office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, among others, were present at that time.
