Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the miscreants are still active to create anarchy in the country to protect their interests.
He expressed the concern in a statement issued on Wednesday. It was signed by party's assistant office secretary Md Taiful Islam Tipu.
The BNP secretary general said, "The miscreants, after the fall of the fascist Awami League government, are again trying to make profits by committing their evil acts, including anarchy, in the country."
"There is no other alternative but to combat the miscreants with an iron hand. People of the country, irrespective of their political ideologies and professions, must get united to establish democracy, voting rights and safety of their properties."
Mirza Fakhrul said a group of armed miscreants attacked Narayanganj BNP leader Abu Al Yousuf Khan Tipu at Nabiganj Community Centre, just after he had arrived there to attend a peace rally on 6th September. He demanded immediate arrest of the attackers and ensure their exemplary punishment.
Earlier on the day, a joint meeting was held, where the presidents and general secretaries of the BNP's associate bodies were present. The party announced two-day programme, marking the International Day of Democracy, and for showing respect to those who had sacrificed their lives during movements over the last 17 years against fascist Sheikh Hasina.
BNP Standing Committee Member Dr A Z M Jahid Hossain announced the programme from a press briefing at the party's headquarters at Naya Paltan in the capital.
He said BNP will organise a memorial meeting at Shaheed Minar on 14th September to show respect to the persons who embraced martyrdoms during the mass movement against Sheikh Hasina. The meeting will start at 3:00 am and will continue until 5:00 pm.
On 15th September, BNP will hold a rally, marking the International Day of Democracy. The programme may be held either at Suhrawardy Udyan or in front of the party's Naya Paltan office. Besides, there will be rallies in all divisional cities on the day, he added.
