A leader of local unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was shot to death by some unidentified miscreants at Faraji Para in Sadar upazila of Kushtia district in the early hours of Wednesday, report agencies.

The deceased was identified as Nazmul Hossain, 27, a vice-president of district unit of BCL and son of Altaf Hossain of Sadar upazila.

Atiqur Rahman, sub-inspector (SI) of Kushtia Model Police Station, said a group of miscreants swooped on Nazmul and shot him in the head while he was sleeping at his residence.

Later, critically injured Atiqur was rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Police, however, said they visited the spot immediately after the incident, but are yet to find any motive behind the killing.

However, they believe the murder was a sequel to an old dispute..

The victim's father said Nazmul and his wife Urmi Khatun were at home at night. "I heard the sound of gunshots from Nazmul's house in the middle of the night. I found him lying in a pool of blood on the floor. Then, he was rushed to Kushtia Sadar Hospital."

Nazmul was brought to the hospital with head injuries around 3:30 am on Wednesday, according to doctor Mehedi Hasan Jony.
