Murder accused dies in B'baria ‘gunfight’

BRAHMANBARIA, Jan 16 (UNB): An accused in a case filed over the killing of a child after abduction was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Bahadurpur in Ashuganj upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Solaiman, 22, son of Ansar Ali of Hetalbunia village in Kathalia upazila of Jhalakati.
Officer-in-charge of Ashuganj Police Station Badrul Alam Talukder said police arrested Solaiman in the case filed for killing Rifat, 5, son of Bahar Miah of Khariala village in the upazila, after abduction.
Following information gleaned from him, the law enforcers launched a drive at Bahadurpur around 3am to arrest mastermind of the kidnaping Mizan, he said.
However, Solaiman's associates opened fire on the law enforcers sensing their presence which prompted police to fire back.
Solaiman was found lying bullet-hit after the gunfight, the OC said, adding that he was declared dead after being taken to a hospital.
